Clinical trials are research studies that involve patients and are the final step in a long process of developing clinical tests and treatments. Most medical interventions used today are the result of past clinical trials. Not all clinical trials involve new drugs. Cancer clinical trials are designed to investigate new ways to:

  • Find and diagnose cancer
  • Treat cancer
  • Prevent cancer
  • Manage symptoms of cancer or side effects from its treatment

If you or a loved one needs treatment for cancer, participation in a clinical trial may be an option. Your doctor will discuss with you if there is a clinical trial appropriate for you to consider. Participation is always voluntary and a decision to participate is best made with your entire team of caregivers as well as your family.
