COVID-19 Related Changes to Lab Services
Updated April 28, 2020

Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, Penn Medicine is providing – and will continue to provide – exceptional care to all of our patients. In an effort to protect our patients and staff, and to prioritize the needs of those who may require immediate care, we have decided to make some changes to new and upcoming lab services over the next several weeks. We believe that taking this step is in the best interest of all and will allow us to focus on our most critically ill patients, take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and ensure we have sufficient equipment and supplies during this difficult time.

The Laboratory Patient Service Centers are only seeing patients requiring urgent laboratory testing. If you have routine or non-urgent orders from your provider that can be safely delayed, we ask that you postpone that laboratory testing until after May 1st.

In an effort to protect our patients, staff, and the public, we are now requiring appointments for all Outpatient Laboratory services (including specimen drop-offs). Same day appointments are available, but must be scheduled. This process will allow us to pre-screen patients for any risk of COVID-19 and ensure we can maintain social distancing in our waiting rooms and patient service areas.

Please contact our Central Scheduling Department at 609.853.7070 to make an appointment or for more information.
