Barbara Christiano, RN, MS, BSN, NEA-BC, is Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS). Ms. Christiano is responsible for the strategic management of the departments of Nursing, Education, Diabetes Management, Acute Rehabilitation, and Pulmonary Services at University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP).This includes recruitment and retention initiatives, development of clinical excellence and support of new hospital-based programs.
Ms. Christiano previously served as the Director of Nursing at UMCP for five years, assisting the CNO withthe implementation of the mission, vision, values and policies of PHCS. In her previous role she also maintained the responsibility, authority and accountability for patient care administration and guided the nursing management team in promoting a positive work environment, along with developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures. She also served as Nursing Performance Improvement Coordinator for PHCSfor one year.
Prior to joining PHCS, Ms. Christiano served as Clinical Nurse Educator for Saint Clare’s Health System in Denville, N.J., and as Director of Nursing for Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J. She also served as Organizational Education Coordinator and Nurse Manager for Union Hospital in Union, N.J.
Ms. Christiano earned her master’s degree in Healthcare Management from College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J., and her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J. She holds an Advanced American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification in Nurse Executive, and completed the Wharton Nursing Leaders Program in 2010.
