Grandparenting 101 in the 21st Century

ICD Support Group

The Breast Cancer Support Group meets the third Tuesday of the month.

The group invites breast cancer patients in all phases of their journeys to attend, along with their family members and/or caregivers. BLS for Healthcare Providers - PFWC

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR, foreign-body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation (AED). The course is designed for health professionals who must have a credential documenting successful completion of a CPR course. This course includes a written exam and skills test. Participants will receive a course completion card.

Registration may be completed online.

If you are paying with a credit card, a class book will be mailed to you. Check payments may be mailed. Once the payment is received, a class book will be mailed. Please note: If you are registering only two weeks prior to the class start date, you will need to pick up your book in person.

Prenatal Yoga

Expectant mothers will learn how to use gentle postures, stretching, breathing, toning, relaxation and meditation to help them keep fit and feel good during pregnancy. ACLS Recertification Course

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course emphasizes the importance of basic life support (BLS), integration of effective BLS with ACLS interventions, and effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

Course Content:

Basic life support care
Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions
Management of cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation, termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care
Recognition of life-threatening clinical situations such as stroke
Identification and treatment of ischemic chest pain
Identification and treatment of acute coronary syndromes
Resuscitation team concept communication

The course is for professionals who respond to cardiovascular emergencies and require an initial or renewal ACLS Provider Course Completion Card. This course includes a written exam and skills test. Participants will receive a course completion card.

AARP Driver Safety Program

$12 for AARP members
$14 for non-members
Payable at the door (cash or check). Checks should be made payable to AARP.

The valuable techniques learned in this course could result in a reduction in car insurance premiums (consult your insurance company for details), and New Jersey drivers may be eligible to have up to two points removed from their driving record.

Participants will learn:

Defensive driving techniques
New traffic laws and rules of the road
How to deal with aggressive drivers
How to handle potential problem situations such as left turns, right-of-way, interstate highway traffic, truck traffic and blind spots
How to safely use anti-lock brakes and safety belts

You must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid NJ or PA driver's license to be eligible for this course. You do not need to be a member of AARP to attend. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate to send to your insurance company. This course will be presented by an AARP instructor.

Designed by the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), the Pet First Aid course teaches participants how to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill pet until veterinary care is available. As we age, changes in our vision, flexibility, strength, range of motion and even height may require modifications to our vehicles to help us feel more confident and comfortable behind the wheel. The CarFit program helps make vehicle adjustments to better “fit” the driver, which will provide the driver with greater comfort and better vehicle control.

In addition, a trained Princeton HealthCare System CarFit technician will take each driver through an observation and questionnaire session. PALS Full Certification Course

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency respiratory management or cardiac arrest.

Course Content:

Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest

Effective respiratory management
Validate skills for one- and two-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child
Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion

Station 1
Student can identify proper application and use of:

Oral airway (adult, pediatric, infant patients)
Nasal airway (adult patients)
Suction airway (adult, pediatric, infant patients)

Station 2
Student can properly:

Place O2 cylinder into service (safely and without leaks)
Assist ALS with CPAP (apply device to patient’s face, connect circuit to CPAP generator)
Assist ALS by assembling the nebulizer, connecting to oxygen regulator, use of local protocols
Demonstrate use of nasal cannula, non-rebreather, simple and Venturi masks

Station 3
Student shall perform the following properly:

Station 1
Student can identify proper application of:

CPR for adult, pediatric and infant patients in accordance with the 2010 AHA Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines
CPR using a mechanical CPR device in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines

Station 2
Student can identify proper application and use of:

Patient-assisted medications (nitro, epi-auto injector, meter dose inhaler, aspirin, glucose)
A medical patient assessment

Station 3
Student shall appropriately demonstrate assisting with:

Abnormal cephalic delivery and a complicated delivery
Post-delivery care

Scenario Skills Evaluation

One shall be a pediatric patient and one shall be an adult patient • Team of two or three EMTs • Proper equipment and realistic scenario describing the circumstances of the patient’s illness
Properly perform a complete patient assessment, including vital signs and HPI, to critically decide on appropriate patient management using oxygen administration, airway adjuncts and patient prescribed medication
CPR
Properly and safely transfer a patient to a carrying device (i.e., stair chair, flexible stretcher, blanket, etc.), then to a stretcher, and finally loaded and secured within the ambulance

Heartsaver First Aid - 731

The Heartsaver First Aid course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Course content includes general first aid principles, medical emergencies and injury emergencies in adults. Heartsaver First Aid is designed for those who have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This course includes a skills test. Participants will receive a course completion card.

COMPETENCIES

Station 1
Student shall correctly determine when and how to perform pediatric immobilization (commercial device, in car seat–intact and compromised)

Station 2
Student shall properly perform:

Securing a trauma patient via standing backboard, using C-collar, spider straps, quick clips, cravats
Helmet removal
Securing, lifting and moving the adult and special population geriatric patient

Station 3
Student shall perform the correct management technique for:

Closed soft tissue injury (RICES), open soft tissue injury, open chest wound, open abdominal wound, impaled object, burns, tourniquets
Stabilizing injuries using rigid splints, air splint, vacuum splint, traction splint, MAST

Station 4
Student shall perform the correct technique and verbalize the correct indications for:

Spinal immobilization using a vest-style device and C-collar
Rapid extrication

Scenario Skills Evaluation

One shall be a pediatric patient and one shall be an adult patient
Team of two or three EMTs
Proper equipment and realistic scenario describing the circumstances of the patient’s injuries
Properly perform a complete patient assessment, including vital signs and HPI, to critically decide on appropriate patient management using O2 administration (proper device), airway adjuncts, splinting, bandaging and movement from a carrying device (i.e., stair chair, flexible stretcher, long board, vest-type device, scoop-style stretcher, etc.) to securing on a stretcher, and properly loading the patient into the ambulance.
