PHCS' Kids Marathon and 5-Mile Race/1-Mile Fun Walk Set for September 10

April 20, 2016
Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) plans to hold two of its signature fitness events on Saturday, September 10—the 5-Mile Race/1-Mile Fun Walk and the 8th annual Kids Marathon.

The events, presented by PHCS Community Education & Outreach in partnership with Princeton Fitness & Wellness Center, will be held on the grounds of Educational Testing Service (ETS), 660 Rosedale Road, Princeton.

The third annual 5-Mile Race, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on September 10, is a USA Track & Field (USATF) certified course, sanctioned event and Grand Prix event. The 1-Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Registration costs $20 for the walk and $30 for the race. Proceeds benefit the care and services provided by the Jim Craigie Center for Joint Replacement at University Medical Center of Princeton.

At 10:30 a.m., hundreds of area youth will participate in a 1.2-mile fun run that serves as the final leg of the Kids Marathon.

Children in grades K through 8 are invited to sign up for the Kids Marathon, which offers children a fun way to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.

Participants will begin marathon activities on their own, striving to walk, run or roll a total 25 miles, or 2.5 miles per week, during the 10-week period from July through early September. Any physical activity—from organized sports to household chores—can count toward the total. (Click here to download a log sheet to track your progress.)

The 1.2-mile run on September 10 completes the full 26.2-mile distance of a marathon.

Parental permission is required. To sign up, visit www.princetonhealthinmotion.com. The cost is $25. Proceeds benefit PHCS programs that work to promote wellness and prevent obesity and chronic disease among children. If cost is an issue, eligible children can receive free scholarships. The 5-Mile Race/1-Mile Fun Walk and Kids Marathon are part of this year's Greater Princeton Race Series, which begins Sunday, April 24, with the Run With Rotary 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run to be held at Skillman Park in Montgomery. Additional events in the series include the Home Front Run/Walk for Hope to be held Sunday, May 22, at ETS and the Carnegie Center 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, September 24, at Carnegie Center, West Windsor.
