Teen Volunteer Program 

Purpose:

The teen volunteer program offers high school students opportunity to gain exposure to the medical environment while also giving back to the community.

Time Frame:

Teen volunteer opportunites are available year round. Acceptance into volunteer program is not guaranteed due to limited openings

Who Should Apply:

  • In accordance with New Jersey Child Labor Laws, applicants must be 15 years of age.
  • Per hospital policy they must also be finished their freshman year of high school.
    • School ID is required at interview.

*Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to our prerequisites for teenagers.*

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Volunteers must have the availability to commit to reoccurring schedule.
    • Volunteers choose one day of the week to spend 3 consecutive hours in a volunteer assignment. They are expected to come to their assgnment the same day and time weekly.
    • Volunteers typitally serve Monday - Friday from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Saturday - Sunday between hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm
    • Volunteers must have the ability to accumulate a minimum of 100 service hours over the course of one year.
    • Volunteers should be willing to be flexible with availability and specific assgnment requests.

    • Parents must sign off on application before submitting via USPS mail to volunteer services.
  • Submit two reference forms.
    • Please provide a true phone number or the teen applicant. we prefer to speak with them directly.
    • Parents must sign off on both reference forms before sumitting via USPS mail to volunteer services.
    • Applicants are not processed until both reference forms are received and verified by Volunteer Servicves,
  • Please mail the application in its entirety to:

                      There is no need to drop it off in person.

  • Please allow one to three weeks for processing before calling the Volunteer Office to check your application status.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Tuberculosis screening(two-step Mantoux):
    1. All teens are responsible for obtaining the proper tests and vaccinations from their preferred health care provider.
    2. Princeton Healthcare System's Occupational Heath does not treat anyone under the age of 18
  2. Flu vaccination is required for all volunteers during flu season(typically September thru May).

    3. Occupational Health requires documentation of flu shot for all Volunteer applicants.  Please have this documentation readily available if applying during flu season.
  3. Attendance is required at a three hour hospital orientation session.
    1. Orientations are held twice a month.
  4. All volunteers will be asked to complete on the job training in their assigned position.
    1. Training can take anywhere from one to two weeks.
  5. Volunteers are asked to purchase their own uniform top from the organization.
    1. The cost is $20.
