Community Connection's 2013 Princeton Kids Marathon will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Princeton University Stadium at a NEW TIME: 9:30 a.m.
We invite you to be a part of a fun event that will benefit thousands of children in Central New Jersey. It is a region-wide effort to promote health and fitness for children grades K- 8 while raising funds to support the care and services provided to babies and children at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. We all know that obesity is a growing problem among school-aged children, with serious and life-long consequences. To help address this problem and to encourage kids to get in the habit of regular exercise, Community Connection of Princeton HealthCare is sponsoring the 5th Annual Princeton HealthCare KIDS MARATHON.
The KIDS MARATHON is a unique event designed just for children. The children run 25 miles at their own pace over 10 weeks, March through May 2013. They register online, run or walk with friends, family, and/or in school, track their own progress, and receive incentives every two weeks. The event is coordinated with the 35th annual 10K Race for adults presented by Community Connection of Princeton HealthCare. The children will gather to run their last mile together in a non-competitive event on June 9, 2013. They receive medals, T-shirts, goody bags and refreshments to celebrate their 26.2-mile accomplishment.
Area public and private school teachers and administrators will help to promote the event and encourage their students to participate. Local elected officials and physicians are also assisting in promoting the Marathon. We expect more than 500 children to participate, and they will be cheered on by their parents, teachers and others throughout the process. We are pleased to offer sponsorship opportunities for this exciting and important event and hope you will consider becoming a sponsor.
Community Connection and Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) extend a special congratulations and thanks to all the children who participated in the 2012 event - the proceeds of the Kids Marathon will benefit the Pediatric Clinic at the hospital. In addition, a special thanks goes out to the parents and teachers who encouraged the children and the many sponsors and volunteers who supported the event.
