Millstone River Park Dedication Set for Monday, October 22
Oct 19, 2012
Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu, Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) President and CEO Barry S. Rabner and New Jersey Commissioner of Environmental Protection Bob Martin will dedicate the new Millstone River Park on Monday, October 22, at 1 p.m.
Plainsboro's newest park, covering 32 acres from the Millstone River to Plainsboro Road, sits directly across from University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. The park is result of a redeveloper's agreement between Plainsboro and PHCS in conjunction with construction of the new hospital and the Princeton Health Campus.
The site formerly housed FMC Corp. research and office buildings. PHCS invested $8 million to demolish the buildings and transform the site into a green space featuring natural plantings, trees, pathways, benches and a view of the river.
The park is one of several green elements incorporated into development of the hospital and health campus. The Plainsboro Health Campus uses indigenous landscaping to eliminate the need for pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation. The campus also features a system of walkways and bike paths and mass transit connections to nearby population centers, helping to reduce congestion in the region.
The hospital is powered, heated and cooled by an adjacent cogeneration plant-developed in partnership with NRG Energy Inc. of Princeton-that is twice as efficient as traditional energy plants. Photovoltaic panels installed in the hospital parking lot generate solar power for the hospital as well.
The new park is accessible via Plainsboro Road, opposite the hospital. For directions to the campus, maps, parking and transit information, click here.
