Gynecologic Surgery Specialist to Explain Robotic Surgery

May 1, 2014

Bruce Pierce, MD, FACOG, a board certified OB/GYN and member of the Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) Medical Staff, will take questions from a live Internet audience and discuss the benefits of robotic surgery for gynecologic procedures during a Web chat on Monday, May 12.

The chat will begin at 12 p.m. To participate in the free event, visit the PHCS UStream channel, www.ustream.tv/princetonhealth, on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Dr. Pierce, who has extensive experience performing gynecologic procedures with the da Vinci® Surgical System, will provide an overview of robotic surgery that covers the procedures that may be performed and the potential benefits compared to traditional open surgery. Dr. Pierce also will discuss who makes a good candidate for robotic surgery and address misconceptions that some might have.

"Many women are living with painful conditions that might be treated with robotic surgery, and I think it's vital that they hear an informed opinion about the potential benefits," said Dr. Pierce. "For many of them, robotic surgery by an experienced surgeon would be the most effective treatment option and also would result in less pain, minimal scarring, faster recovery and a shorter stay in the hospital."

Viewers may ask questions by creating an account or by logging in through an existing UStream or Facebook account. Questions may also be submitted in advance to PrincetonHealth@gmail.com.

To register for the Web chat, visit www.princetonhcs.org/calendar or call 1-888-897-8979. Registration is not required, but those who register will be eligible to win a drawing for one of several gift cards to be awarded following the Web chat.
