Princeton HealthCare System Earns Top Performer® Designation
Nov 1, 2013
Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations, for the third year in a row.
The Top Performer designation, which recognized the clinical care at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) in 2012, came one week after The Leapfrog Group gave UMCPP an "A" in patient safety.
“The safety and quality of patient care are paramount concerns," said PHCS President and CEO Barry S. Rabner. "We aggressively seek out independent experts such as The Leapfrog Group and The Joint Commission to evaluate our performance and report the results to the public. Our patients must know how we're doing, and we need these evaluations as well so that we can learn from them and continue improving."
UMCPP earned the Top Performer designation for exemplary performance in accountability measures related to heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. The hospital was judged on various accountability measures that correspond to evidence-based practices, such as giving aspirin to heart attack patients upon arrival or administering antibiotics within one hour prior to surgery.
To earn Top Performer, UMCPP was required to provide each evidence-based practice at least 95 percent of the time.
