Sleeve gastrectomy—a surgical procedure that reduces the volume of a person's stomach, typically resulting in significant weight loss and improved health—is among a wide array of treatments provided at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) Center for Bariatric Surgery, which has been recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
Bariatric surgery is a successful clinical treatment for fighting morbid obesity and overcoming the damaging health effects of being overweight, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and infertility.
Dr. Chau is fellowship-trained in bariatric surgery and has performed approximately 1,000 procedures. Dr. Chau and UMCPP's Center for Bariatric Surgery offer patients several insurance options, including commercial plans such as Aetna, Amerihealth, Cigna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, Oxford and United Healthcare.
Older adults who are obese and meet additional criteria may now qualify for Medicare coverage of sleeve gastrectomy as well.
