UMCP Radiology Imaging Receives ACR Reaccreditation for Ultrasound

Mar 28, 2010

University Medical Center at Princeton (UMCP) Radiology Imaging Services was recently awarded a three-year term of reaccreditation in obstetrics, gynecological, general and vascular ultrasound by the American College of Radiology (ACR). ACR accreditation demonstrates commitment to exceptional patient care and assurance that the staff and equipment have passed the ACR's rigorous evaluation.

ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. For the third consecutive cycle, UMCP Radiology Imaging Services received an overall score for ultrasound in the high nineties out of a possible 100 in the ACR evaluation.

In addition to receiving the recent ACR reaccreditation, UMCP radiology sonographers are certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialties of abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology, breast, neurosonology and vascular technology. They provide a wide continuum of outpatient ultrasound services to patients of all ages, including:

  • ultrasound scans for gynecological patients and pregnancies,
  • color and Doppler examination of the carotid arteries and other vessels,
  • ultrasound-guided biopsies and aspirations, and
  • other general ultrasound services.
UMCP is a unit of Princeton HealthCare System, a comprehensive, integrated healthcare system that strives to anticipate and serve the lifelong needs of Central New Jersey residents, including acute care hospital services, behavioral healthcare, acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home care, hospice care, ambulatory surgery, and fitness and wellness services. For the second consecutive year, UMCP has been recognized as one of the nation's Top Hospitals by the Leapfrog Group, a partnership of major employers and other large healthcare purchasers dedicated to improving the safety, quality and affordability of healthcare. UMCP is one of only 37 acute care hospitals nationwide to earn the designation of Top Hospital.
