Princeton HealthCare System President & CEO to Speak About New Hospital

May 20, 2009

Princeton, NJ - Barry Rabner, President and CEO, Princeton HealthCare System, will discuss plans for the new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP), the acute care hospital of Princeton HealthCare System, on Friday, June 12, at noon, at the Princeton Senior Resource Center located at The Suzanne Patterson Building, 45 Stockton Street in Princeton.  He will also talk about plans for the remaining 110 acres on the new healthcare campus, including the new Merwick nursing and rehabilitation center.

Located on 50 acres of a 160-acre site in Plainsboro bounded by Route One, Scudders Mill Road, and the Millstone River, the new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP) is a replacement hospital for the current University Medical Center at Princeton on Witherspoon Street in Princeton. When the new hospital opens in late 2011, it will consist of 636,000 square feet of interior space, 237 single patient rooms, the most technologically advanced operating rooms, patient rooms, treatment areas, and an emergency department, which will be double the size of the current emergency department. The building is being constructed to accommodate a future expansion of one-third its 2011 size. The new UMCPP will include ample, on-site parking, mass transit services, and accommodations for a rapid transit system.

Hyman and Michael Jacobs, the father and son team leading Windsor Healthcare LLC, will join Mr. Rabner to talk about the new Merwick, the nursing and sub-acute rehabilitation facility. Merwick will move from Bayard Land in Princeton to the banks of the Millstone River at the Plainsboro site. Owned and operated by Windsor Healthcare LLC (with the hospital retaining five percent ownership interest) the new, state-of-the-art Merwick will be double the size of the old Merwick.  At 105,000 square feet, the new LEED-certified structure will include 200 beds. Windsor Healthcare is the experienced owner/operators of high-quality skilled nursing facilities in New Jersey and New York. The current Merwick Care Center on Bayard Lane will be open and fully operational until the move.
