Meet Our Staff

John A. (Jack) Heim, MDHeim John Crow 2 10-2009-web-medium


Princeton HealthCare Thoracic Surgery is led by John A. (Jack) Heim, MD, who also serves as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at University Medical Center at Princeton.

Dr. Heim, who is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, joined Princeton HealthCare System in the summer of 2009 with more than 15 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery. His practice focuses on the assessment and surgical treatment of diseases of the chest and lungs, including conditions such as lung nodules, cancers of the lung and esophagus and mediastinal tumors.

Dr. Heim most recently served as Director of Surgery and Section Head of Thoracic Surgery at Frankford Hospital (now called Aria Health), a member of the Jefferson Health System in Philadelphia. He previously served as an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, N.J.; Cooper Hospital University Medical Center in Camden; and Virtua Health System in Marlton, N.J.

Dr. Heim received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, The New Jersey Medical School in 1985. His post-graduate training includes a residency in general surgery at the University of Connecticut-Hartford Hospital, and a fellowship in thoracic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Heim also completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, Rush Medical College, in Chicago.

A 1981 graduate of Ramapo College of New Jersey, Dr. Heim is a noted regional speaker and educator on topics such as lung cancer and management of thoracic trauma. Since 2003, he has regularly volunteered on international pediatric cardiac surgery mission trips to Paraguay and St. Petersburg, Russia.
