UMCP Center for Wound Healing

Every year, chronic wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation and related conditions keep as many as 5 million Americans from enjoying life. To help individuals suffering from these and other non-healing wounds, University Medical Center at Princeton has opened the Center for Wound Healing.

Located at 281 Witherspoon Street on the hospital campus, UMCP Center for Wound Healing provides a comprehensive approach to wound healing, using proven wound care practices and advanced clinical approaches, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in a state-of-the-art facility.

High Healing Rates, Reduced Healing Time

The Center will be under the medical leadership of board certified, fellowship trained specialists Kenneth A. Goldman, MD, FACS, and Scott W. Sinner, MD. Dr. Goldman, who is board certified in general surgery and vascular surgery, and Dr. Sinner, who is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine, will head a multi-disciplinary healthcare team that includes physicians with advanced training in wound management, as well as nurses skilled in chronic wound care treatment. These innovative techniques have been found to achieve some of the best healing rates and fastest healing times in the nation. This means recovery and a positive outcome in the shortest time possible.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a proven medical treatment that enhances the body's natural healing while strengthening the immune system. Delivered and monitored by trained wound healing center specialists, HBOT is an effective treatment option for many chronic wounds.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treats such conditions as:

  • Diabetic leg and foot wounds
  • Chronic bone infection
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Other non-healing wounds

Specializing in Diabetic Needs

Individuals with diabetes are more likely to require wound care services, according to statistics from the American Diabetes Association:

  • 5 million people suffering chronic wounds have diabetic ulcers
  • 15% of all diabetics will develop chronic wounds
  • Diabetic patients have a 15-fold increase of amputation risk
  • Approximately 60,000 people with diabetes will undergo amputation each year
