Emergency Department

Staffed by physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine and nurses who are trained in trauma, emergency care and disaster preparedness, the Emergency Department has more than 36,000 visits each year.  Our services feature:

  • A focus on prompt treatment with a bedside registration process and a Fast Track Suite that provides treatment for a less serious injury or illness within an hour
  • An acute Care Suite offering specialty rooms for trauma and OB/GYN care, and an isolation room for cases involving potentially communicable diseases
  • 24-hour on call emergency neurosurgery services provided by the state’s leading board certified, fellowship trained neurosurgeons*

The Emergency Department provides patients with prompt, quality care for two of the most serious medical emergencies—strokes and heart attacks.

Emergency Angioplasty

A critical lifesaving procedure for heart attacks, emergency angioplasty is provided to patients by a special team of board certified physicians, specialists and nurses.

Stroke Program

UMPC has one of the region's most comprehensive treatment programs for stroke and is a NJ State-designated Primary Stroke Center. Click here for more information about the UMPC Stroke Program.

For more information, call 609.497.4431.

*These services include emergency neurosurgery for cases of acute spinal cord compression and intracranial hemorrhage, including stroke if surgical intervention is required, and other medical/neurological conditions that require surgical intervention. While UMCP is proud to provide this level of care to patients, we wish to clarify that University Medical Center at Princeton is not a state-designated regional trauma center. Care for cases involving traumatic head injury is properly provided at such centers.
