Volunteer Opportunities for High School Students

    Princeton-057200

We are currently accepting applications for adult volunteers only. As of Jan. 1, 2012, we are no longer accepting applications for junior/teen volunteers. We anticipate that we will begin accepting junior/teen applications sometime in March. This timeline may change as we transition to our new hospital in Plainsboro. We encourage you to check back in the spring for any updates.

Current volunteers, we thank you for your continued service, support and commitment to Princeton HealthCare System and our patients.

Each year, more than 1,000 students from area high schools provide service to Princeton HealthCare System. To be eligible to become a high-school volunteer, applicants must be at least a sophomore in high school. Applications from students must be submitted with parental or guardian signature on the application and transcript release form. Following receipt of your paperwork, accepted applicants will be invited to attend an information session.

Volunteering can meet requirements for community service hours.  High-school volunteers are scheduled between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday, and commit to serve a minimum of one three-hour shift per week.

    APPLICATION PACKET to be submitted:

1.) Completed application form with parental or guardian signature on the application.

2.) Transcript release form (return with the application -- do not give to your counselor).

3.) At least one recommendation letter and two verbal resources (3 separate references). The recommendation letter should be a character reference, involving traits such as cooperation, reliability and initiative from a personal or professional source; please exclude relatives and your guidance counselor.

To download an application packet, click here. Upon receipt of a complete application packet, we will contact your school for sealed credentials. With receipt of all materials, accepted candidates will be invited to attend an orientation session (parents/guardians are welcome to attend; younger children will not be allowed in the session). Please note that this process may take some time. We are expecting a large influx of applicants and everyone will be processed accordingly.

Each applicant will be interviewed by the Volunteer Services Department staff, and specific training is provided for each assignment.  Uniform jackets are required for all volunteers and are available for a nominal fee.

Princeton HealthCare System has an active group of volunteers, providing the best possible experience for patients and families. We are pleased that you are considering joining us for your volunteer service and look forward to meeting you.  For additional information, call 609.497.4273 or 609.497.4276.

Merit awards are available to high-school seniors who have completed 250 hours and 24 months of service.
