    CONDUCTING A LITERATURE REVIEW POWER POINT PRESENTATION

    The Research Committee has adopted the Iowa Model of Evidenced-based Practice.

    New Chair & Co-Chair of the Research Council have been selected for this year.

    Audrey Amir, Chairperson

    Audrey Amir has been an integral member of the telemetry staff for the past two years.  She is the hospital representative for the Research Council and the Inpatient Diabetes Resource Team. Audrey is enthusiastically involved in caring for the diabetic population and serves as the unit's diabetes resource nurse.  She is collaborating with UMCP's Diabetes Management Program to implement patient teaching kits.  She is actively involved in educating the nurses in diabetes management and has given presentations, as well as provided resource materials for the staff.  Recently, she has been selected to chair the Research Council.

    Audrey comes to Princeton HealthCare System with a diverse background in nursing.  She has worked at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) on its cardiothoracic/surgical step-down unit, as well as in maternity, high-risk nursery, and adult medical-surgical nursing.  She was the Magnet representative for her unit at Capital Health's Helene Fuld campus and was chosen for a radio interview on nursing as a second career.  Audrey obtained her BSN from the University of Pennsylvania and was inducted as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing.

    Inez Brandon, Co-Chairperson

    Inez Brandon has been selected by her colleagues to co-chair the Research Council.  Inez is a member of the Oncology nursing staff on B2 and the chairman of Oncology's unit-based research council.  She brings a wealth of clinical experience to the position, including knowledge of long-term care and home care hospice nursing practices.

    Inez is dedicated to lifelong learning and is currently pursuing her Master's of Science degree in Nursing from Holy Family University.  She is a certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse and a member of Sigma Theta Tau's International Society of Nursing.  In addition to academic endeavors, Inez finds time to volunteer for Mobile Meals of Trenton-Ewing.

    Inez will assume the Chair position of the Research Council next year and it is the Research Council's great fortune to have Inez providing guidance and leadership for the next two years.

    Our Purpose

    The purpose of the Research Council (NRC) is to educate and mentor nurses and nursing students in their understanding of clinical research and evidence-based practice.  The NRC assists to facilitate the integration of research in the clinical setting, translate evidence-based practice into clinical practice  facilitate conducting nursing research.

    Our Mission

    The Nursing Research Council (NRC) supports clinical research efforts and utilization to establish a scientific base for the care of individuals across the lifespan—from management of patients during illness and recovery to the reduction of risks for disease and disability and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

    2010 Meetings Calendar

    The Nursing Research Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of the Month from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

    B5 Conference Room.  It is open to all nurses and nursing students from Princeton HealthCare System.

      

    About the NRC

    The NRC will provide a forum to assist nurses in their understanding of evidence-based practice and clinical practice guidelines through the following:

    • Promote the conduct of nursing research
    • Facilitate networking among nurse researchers
    • Provide mechanisms for dissemination of information regarding research methods and findings
    • Foster the utilization of research findings
    • Encourage socialization and prepare students and new investigators for the role of nurse researcher
    • Promote the development of resources available to nursing researchers
    • Promote the image of nursing as a scientific discipline

    Goals for 2010

    The goal of the Research Council is to create and instill a culture of research.  Mentoring and support of nurses in the research process, increasing awareness of council activities, promoting education on research, and disseminating findings will promote the integration of research into practice.

    Current Research at Princeton HealthCare System

        The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Princeton HealthCare System has listed more than 65 studies investigated by 29 physicians and staff. The study topics include: Oncology, Psychology, Orthopedics, GI, Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, Eating Disorders, Diabetes, Pain and Infection. For more information, refer to the IRB folder on the hospital "M" drive or, if you are interested in becoming part of a study, ask your physician.
