Cancer Program

Cancer 1 The Cancer Program at University Medical Center at Princeton is committed to providing our patients with outstanding clinical care and exceptional personal caring.

Our program combines advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies with a dedicated team of cancer experts who carefully coordinate each patient’s care, ensuring that treatment is highly individualized, progressive and comprehensive. By providing a complete continuum of care, patients have full access to the specialized clinical services, rehabilitative care and support they need to aid treatment and recovery from cancer.

Nationally Recognized Care

As a Clinical Research Affiliate of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and an accredited oncology teaching program of the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, University Medical Center is helping to define new standards in cancer care while supporting national efforts to find a cure. CINJ Affiliate HR

Our affiliation with CINJ (the state’s first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center) ensures that we can offer convenient access to state-of-the-art clinical research trials, making it possible for our patients to receive sophisticated, quality care while remaining close to home and loved ones. Clinical research trials are available to patients with breast, lung, melanoma and prostate cancer. We also conduct cancer prevention trials.

Comprehensive, Individualized Care

Our Cancer Program is designed to provide first-class care. From the very start, patients can expect personal attention from a multidisciplinary team that is involved in all aspects of their care. Our program emphasizes providing the personalized care of a community hospital with the advances of a respected teaching facility. We also provide a full continuum of support services.

Your Multidisciplinary Treatment Team

  • Respected board certified physicians including oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons
  • Skilled and compassionate certified oncology* and infusion nurses
  • Pharmacists with board certification in oncology and pharmacotherapy
  • Registered and certified radiology technicians and laboratory professionals
  • Registered dietitians
  • Licensed clinical social workers
  • Chaplains and volunteers

*Our certified oncology nursing staff has received national recognition from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. One hundred percent of our infusion program nursing staff is OCN certified.

We emphasize providing care in a comfortable and comforting environment, giving patients and family members the encouragement they need, every step of the way.

  • A dedicated oncology educator informs patients and their loved ones about all aspects of cancer treatment, disease management and community resources.
  • A specially designed inpatient oncology unit offers private patient suites, a relaxation lounge with Internet access, unlimited visiting hours and accommodations for loved ones who wish to spend the night.
  • An oncology nurse manager visits daily with all inpatients in our program, encouraging open communication.
  • A comfortable, soothing outpatient infusion lounge makes high-quality care more convenient for those who wish to remain close to home and actively engaged in life’s activities.
  • Exceptional patient satisfaction scores through Press Ganey, the healthcare industry’s leading performance measurement and improvement firm, continually rank in the high 90th percentile.

Advanced Diagnostic & Treatment Tools

University Medical Center at Princeton is committed to offering state-of-the-art technologies and advanced treatment for cancer.

  • Comprehensive diagnostic imaging services include low-dose, spiral CT and PET scanning, mammography and 3.0T MRI, for accurate cancer detection and monitoring.
  • State-of-the-art J. Seward Johnson Sr. Radiation Oncology Center offers today’s highly sophisticated cancer treatments.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is supported by a new CT simulator and linear accelerator for precise planning and delivery of complex radiation treatments.
  • Endoscopic ultrasound enables physicians to see a clearer picture of tumors or masses in the gastrointestinal tract and around the lungs, resulting in improved diagnosis and treatment for patients. It also enables physicians to perform fine-needle aspiration (biopsy) of lymph nodes and tumors and inject medicines in affected areas, such as pain medication for patients with pancreatic cancer, or direct injection of chemotherapy into a tumor.
  • Progressive medication therapy integrates the latest pharmaceutical advancements.
