As of July 2009, physicians and other health professionals from CHOP are providing services for children at UMCP as part of CHOP Pediatric Care at UMCP (Pediatric Unit) and CHOP Newborn Care at UMCP (Level II Special Care Nursery). This partnership combines the skills of two top-rated facilities:

  • CHOP, one of the leading pediatric hospitals and research facilities in the world, is ranked first in the nation in Parents magazine's February 2009 "Best Children's Hospitals" issue, as well as tops in a number of specific areas in the study, including emergency medicine and neonatology. CHOP is also No. 1 in more specialties than any other hospital in U.S. News & World Report's rankings of America's Best Children's Hospitals, 2009.
  • University Medical Center at Princeton was ranked a Top Hospital for patient safety for the second consecutive year (2008-2009) by The Leapfrog Group. In addition, UMCP has ranked in the top 5 percent of hospitals in the United States for maternity care services for the fourth consecutive year by HealthGrades.

CHOP provides a pediatric hospitalist on-site 24/7 to care for children and adolescents who are admitted to UMCP's Pediatric Unit. A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in caring for patients in the hospital and who does not have an outpatient medical practice.
