There has been a gradual but steady decline in prostate cancer mortality in the United States of approximately 30 percent. Screening with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is responsible for a substantial shift toward detection of prostate cancer at earlier stages. The American Urological Association's (AUA) Best Practice Statement suggests that early detection of and risk management for prostate cancer should be offered to men 40 years of age and older who have a life expectancy of at least 10 years, and that men who wish to be screened should have a PSA test and a digital rectal exam (DRE). In particular, African American males or men with a strong family history of prostate cancer should consider screening. This screening is strictly confidential and is sponsored by UMCP Cancer Program and Princeton Regional Health Department.
